ive been visiting this site for about 8 months, just taking in all your comments and the issues that are of importance to those who have been jehovahs witnesses and the problems that you have identified with the religion.

i was brought up in the truth in the 60s and 70s but my parents left before i reached the age when i would consider being baptised.

subsequently my parents divorced but have remarried separately and are both back in the religion.

I John 5:7 question

i am sure many of you know that 1 john 5:7 does not exist in the nwt as it does kjv.

i need an answer if anyone has it.

read on.... a more serious problem with the king james bible in regard to adding words can be found at 1 john 5:7 where it says, "for there are three that bear record in heaven, the father, the word, and the holy ghost: and these three are one".

The word [other] in NWT

sorry this is so long, but here is a series of e-mails i sent to the jehovah's witnesses united site and their response.

it has to do with the nwt inserting the word [other]in col 1:16,17 and phil 2:9. pick it apart as you may.

Is christmas christian?

yeh i was wondering if christmas was christian because i was told it was rooted in pagan celebrations not do with christ but to do with false gods etc but is this really so,think about it arent the days supposed to be named after gods and isnt the wedding ring pagan also so should we then not celebrate are wedding anniversarys then what about birthdays i think the birth of your child is something to celebrate dont you.

NWT translation

i have been doing a lot of research lately on jws and the new world translation.

through history, i found that king james, in 1604, ordered a commitee to accurately translate the original scriptures, from hebrew and greek, into the english language.

this took 47 people 7 years to do and thus came up with the kj bible.

there are two things.

in the early and mid 80s there were witnesses saying that the cartoon characters the smurfs were not acceptable for witnesses.

i had two smurf cartoon books and my mother made me throw them away.

LET'S MAKE A LITTLE WAGER

perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.

as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.

since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.
